The Art of Leaving Things Alone

By Eliza

One of the strangest experiences one can ever have, is life. It is so beautifully complex, some try, in all their years of existing, to figure it out. Because emotions navigate life, but we never get a rule book on how to navigate these emotions.

Have you ever had an emotional breakdown? Endless nights of overthinking the same thing? Crying quietly listening to slow songs, just the four walls of your room knowing what you’re thinking about. The same cycle repeats, we overthink, to find some way to just make the situation better. To stop that constant nagging feeling, or the random low days. We exhaust ourselves just finding a solution, we forget that the problem might not need a solution, it may just get better with time, if we do nothing.

Every person at one point seems to be following the majority, either to find a solution to their problems, or acknowledgement of the fact that they are not the only ones experiencing it. But going behind the mob does not mean finding a solution to the problem, in fact, a lot of times it makes it worse. Muddied water does not get cleared if we meddle with it, the only way it gets better is if we leave it alone for the mud to settle down.

There is great power in having the ability to leave things alone. In a lot of cases, it is the answer to our problems, but it takes great inner strength to do so. Wisdom lies in realizing why. Every problem does not ask for a remedy, sometimes the answer may lie in just letting it be.

Remedies often make troubles worse, specially if your life feels like a hurricane of different emotions. Sometimes, it’s best to wait at the shore, and wait for the hurricane to pass. Often times, the best cure is to let things run their course, only to realise that they disappear on their own.
