This image showcases the irony of the use of Ghibli to present Robert J Oppenheimer- the man who developed a nuclear weapon using Japanese technology which was later used to destroy Japan itself
Ghibli- an art form much heard about over the past couple of days. It’s a Japanese animation form founded in 1985, by artist Hayao Miyazaki- a man who personally hates technology and called the demonstration “an insult to life itself”.
As we all are aware of the recreation of Ghibli through artificial intelligence by converting one’s real life images into Ghibli art, using mainly ChatGPT has become a widespread trend amongst the youth.
It may be viewed as harmless and an amusing distraction but not only does this simple act cause irreparable damage to the environment by melting the gpu’s but destroys and depreciates the artist’s legacy by their acquired skill being imitated by AI in a matter of seconds.
This demonstrates a concerning awareness over the lack of empathy, creativity and patience in today’s youth, and their insatiable urge to fit in amongst their peers by following the latest trends. A minor trend turned alarming.
Is following trends worth the cost of getting one’s personal data misused for Open Ai’s betterment?
